Knowledge and judgment multiple-choice scoring trains students to use higher levels of thinking needed on standardized tests. Students obtain a report of both what they know and how well they know. They get two scores. You got a test score of 70and were 100right on what you reported. Good job!
It rewards students for developing the sense of responsibility needed to learn and report at higher levels of thinking. They can see when they are doing well on what they have done even though the test score is not as high as they might like. They respond to the quality or ?feel good?score. ?I have done well as far as I got. Next time I want to go further.?
Students can choose when to mark everything and hope for the best, or to report what they know and also be rewarded for their judgment of what they know. Both scoring methods can be used on the same test by different students. They can select the one they feel comfortable with or the one that challenges them the best. There is little fun in getting a test score of 60and a quality score of 60right-mark only scoring, half from chance . A new Test Performance Profile is generated in the item analysis. Good instruction produces Mastery/Easy items. Good students produce few Unfinished items. Good questions are Discriminating items. They produce the score distribution and are used in standardized tests. Test reliability is calculated for the entire test and the Discriminating items.
