Degas is one of the most important and popular figures of Impressionist and Post-Impressionist art. Degas was not as outgoing or social as some of his contemporaries. In fact, to many of his fellow artists, Degas was seen as an aloof, self-centered and even snobbish man. Some considered him arrogant. However, few questioned his artistic skill or discipline.
